If you want to study in Australia, you must need a student VISA. You have to follow some procedures to apply for your student VISA.
After getting admitted to your institution, the institution will provide an offer letter to you. If you accept the written offer letter and pay the first terms of your tuition fees, the institution will send you a COE or Confirmation of Enrollment. With this document, you can apply for your student VISA. This COE is equally important to take part in the language skill test program and applying for scholarships from the Australian Government.

  • The COE or Confirmation of Enrollment from your university or college
  • OSHC Health Insurance
  • Proof of your reason for the temporary stay
  • Proof of your age
  • Evidence of your financial abilities, including a bank statement
  • Scores of your last examinations
  • Scores on English language test
  • Employment certificates, if any
  • Proof of your no criminal record

  In online applications, all the documents must be in digital format. You can apply for your VISA at least 124 days before the start of your course. The application form for the VISA is available online, and after completing the necessary information, you have to pay 575 AUD as the fee for the application. After the application and payment are successful, you will get a receipt with a TRN number or Transaction Reference Number. With this number, you can quickly check your application status.

  Some you also may need a health checkup and VISA interview to get your student VISA. After completing your application, you will get this notification from the authority. Generally, after completing the whole application process, you need more than one to three weeks minimum to get your student VISA to Australia. You can easily track the status of your VISA by using the TRN number.

  Once you get your student VISA, you can enter Australia a maximum of 90 days before the start of your course. After entering, you must inform your institution about your accommodation details within seven days. You can stay in Australia for a maximum of 30 to 60 days after the expiry of your student VISA, depending upon your course and tenure of studying. If you want to stay in Australia for a longer time, you can again renew your VISA or get a valid work permit.

• Employment opportunities for foreign students

  As per the new rules of the subclass student VISA to Australia, international students can work up to 40 hours during the session time while studying in Australia. On the other hand, they can work as full-time employees during the holidays and vacations. There is no maximum work time limit for international students during this time.
  However, there are specific rules for international students to start part-time jobs.

  • A student cannot start a new job until the session begins. For instance, if a student arrives by December and the session starts in January, he cannot choose a part-time job till January.
  • The limit will not be applied if you are admitted to a regular study program. This is usually applicable to international students admitted to compulsory internships of integrated courses.
  • Post Graduate Research students can work for unlimited hours during the starting periods of their research work or doctoral thesis. Also, this case will not be applicable for such students admitted to any preparatory course related to the same field. The maximum work time for such students will also be 40 hours per week like other international students.
  • Students who want to complete the Australian study requirements can apply for a Post Study Work Permit under Graduate Stream. The Australian government offers the program. However, students enrolled in an ELICOS cannot apply for this program.
